Charcon Provides Five-Star Finish at Luxury Hotel
Hard landscaping specialist Charcon, has supplied 1,100 square
metres of Andover Textured Block Paving to ensure that
the outside space at the four-star plus Radisson SAS Hotel at
Stansted Airport is just as impressive as the inside.
Located to the north-east of the celebrated Stansted terminal
building designed by Foster and Partners, the 500 room hotel
provides a superior business service with extensive conference
facilities, meeting rooms, a 350 square metre banqueting hall, a
health club, restaurants and bars. Unlike many other airport
hotels, the new Radisson SAS will be linked to the terminal
building by a covered pedestrian walkway. The first 350 bedrooms
and the main hotel facilities opened in July this year with the
remaining 150 rooms handed over in November.
Architects Aukett specified Charcon Andover Textured Block Paving in Silver Grey for
the ‘customer interface’ area outside the main entrance to the
hotel. A 15m diameter circle feature forms the centrepiece to the
area surrounded by a standard stretcher bond laying pattern. One of
the reasons Andover Textured Block Paving was selected
was because of its versatility. It is ideal for a variety of laying
patterns, making it possible to combine architectural features with
a coherent identity and colour consistency throughout.
The product's pale, understated colour creates a contemporary
backdrop to either modern or traditional projects, reflecting the
local landscape character whatever the setting.
Available in six sizes this versatile block can be used to
create different patterning effects in adjacent areas while
retaining overall texture and colour consistency. Its chamfer-less
profile creates a smoother riding surface. In addition it is highly
functional providing high skid resistance and heavy-duty loading
capability.
Landscape architect Adam Clark from Aukett said: “Charcon’s
Andover Textured Block Paving is one of the best
non-natural stone products on the market, with the granite
aggregates providing a high quality finish. The silver grey colour
also tied in with the palette of materials used on the building.
The modular range of block sizes and the fact that the product is
trafficable has also led us to specifiy it on this and many other
jobs. As one of the main players in the market, Charcon has an
extensive range and is also easy to deal with – there are never any
problems with samples or supplies and they also offer the back-up
of a good network and customer support services.”
