Quality Paves the Way to Contract Win
A reputation for high quality products has paved the way to
winning a prestigious £150,000 project for hard landscaping
specialists, Charcon.
With an annual turnover of just under £2 billion, IT giant
Fujitsu Services wanted only the very best for its brand new state
of the art offices at the Central Park development in
Manchester.
And when it came to landscaping the exterior, specifying
architects, Aukett, Fitzroy, Robinson had no hesitation in placing
Charcon at the top of their list of hard landscaping suppliers.
A spokesman for the architectural consultancy, which has
designed dozens of major business and retail premises throughout
Europe, said: “There is a definite hierarchy of materials when it
comes to landscaping an urban area. At the top is natural stone and
at the bottom is basic black-top. Clients such as Fujitsu Services
expect us to source materials from the top end of the list, which
is why we chose Charcon’s Andover Textured Block Paving.
“In addition to the price and quality, I particularly like the
finish and edges of the Andover Textured Block Paving as well as the
choice of sizes available, which make it suitable for a range of
applications.”
Thanks to its pale, understated colours, the Silver Grey,
Charcoal and Cream Andover Textured Block Paving paving helped
create a contemporary backdrop mirroring the ultra modern design
and colour of the three Fujitsu offices, which cover 175,000 square
feet and house 900 staff.
Countrysetts from Charcon in Silver Grey with a
split face finish were also used in conjunction with the paving to
segregate spacing and provide an authentic natural granite feel in
keeping with the style of the building.
The thickness of the paving slabs was a further consideration in
this project, needing to be durable enough to cope with frequent
heavy goods vehicle usage. Again, the Andover Textured Block Paving comfortably met the
criteria – their highly functional chamferless profile providing
heavy duty loading capability, a smoother riding surface and high
skid resistance.
Located a mile and a half from Manchester city centre, Central
Park is a large scale mixed use urban business park, covering 450
acres. Initially 90 acres are being developed including office
space totalling 1.4 million square feet.
In addition to the Fujitsu offices, Charcon’s Andover setts and
Appalachian paving are also being used as part of the landscaping
for the university-run MANCAT Learning Centre currently being built
at the park.
